My Pa Pa You and I were cowboys everlasting You caught me in dark corners Flimsy and fraught with despair Wearing your cowboy boots and Stetson hat And I crawled out singing Knowing that you had room For every grandchild on your bony knee You chased us through the house With one eye in your head And the other in your hand Wondering if we knew how to milk rats Or how horses ate apples Falling to the floor-rolling on our backs All knees and elbows and laughter Cramming our hearts with heaven I remember you and Eldon Nights spent up and aloft playing dominoes Under the ribs of Orion Lost in a field of your thoughts Feeling salted and new Like the first people on earth Held in the yellow, sallow light of the stars I remember your hands So weathered and stained with hope and promise Hands of silence, hands of strength, hands of service Always open Cracked by years of love I remember your walk I trembled at the waters edge But you walked across the sea I remember those moist pastures Overlapping and lone, unfurled at your feet Confident and proud You lived and loved like a ship with wild longing seeing it's bold triumph Over the spreading silent ocean Hope-flinging you forward, sailing you on Dear Pa Pa, my Pa Pa Your ship has come in Full flailed and flung out before you Like a trumpet blast from heaven You were created for such as this A ship crafted, cradled and set free Catching wind and wonder Ocean crest and God's own breath Your joy life love Great and temendous as the sea Poured out and overflowing Into us And so we carry your life in our heavy steps And you dear Pa Pa, my Pa Pa Are home our treasure, stored up in heaven So say farewell to these shadowlands And dance in the pallid, fallow light of your Saviour Like a ship you are launched All rampant and drenched Whirling, unfurling into the palm of God Sean Norris November 29, 2001 |

Why God Made Fathers God knew that children all would need Someone secure and strong To shelter and protect them, And to teach them right from wrong... Someone they could take pride in, And look up to as a guide, Someone they could count on, And in whom they could confide... He knew as children grew, They'd need the reassurance of Someone with faith and trust in them To always give them love... And that's why God made fathers. |
IF YOU COULD SEE ME NOW Our prayers have all been answered I finally arrived The healing that has been delayed Has now been realized. No one's in a hurry-there's no schedule to keep. We're all enjoying Jesus-just sitting at His feet. My light and temporary trials have worked out for my good. To know it brought Him glory when I misunderstood. Though we've had our sorrows, they can never compare. What Jesus has in store for us, no language can share If you could see me now-I'm walking streets of gold If you could see me now-I'm standing tall and whole If you could see me now-You'd know I've seen His face If you could see me now-You'd know the pain's erased You wouldn't want me to ever leave this place-If you could see me now. |

What Is a Grandfather? Daddy, You Are Special |
"It is through our families that we learn love, and in learning love we find God" A father as wonderful as you are could only be the work of God, and I feel lucky that He's given you to me. I'm thankful you shared with me your own deep faith in Him, and that you have helped me learn to love and care about others. I'm glad that God helped you to be a "Very Special Father" and hope you knew how very much we all really love you! Send an email |
You were the best Father a girl could ever ask for!
